Spar 25 hours 2009 – Race report 1

The team backed by Saltash based SPAR wholesaler Appleby Westward qualified 12th out of the 151 cars and had climbed to fantastic 3rd place overall on the lead lap at the 7 hour mark. By 20 hours they were running in 5th place and leading the 25 strong British contingents by over 3 laps.

However during the 20th hour the diesel turbo powered VW Beetle silhouette car stopped on the circuit with a melted wiring loom. Towed back in they repaired the damage but were now 40 minutes down in 68th place. The team recovered to 59th place by the race finish.

The race drivers, led by Ian, included his son Marc, Frenchman Franck Pelle and Norwegian Lars Berg. Ian Commented:

“It’s been a bitter pill to swallow, having featured so strongly and led the UK class for over 12 hour. We will be back next year”
