Qualifying :
The Double header race at Croft, near Teesside attracted healthy grid
of 24 cars for the Weekends two 3 hour races for the Uniroyal Fun Cup.
Qualifying went pretty well with us setting 6th fastest time, but then
unfortunately drawing a poor grid slot. The grid is drawn by ballot, so
it was largely irrelevant…as we drew 20th place on the grid.
Race One, 3 Hours Saturday :
Ian started the race, but after a promising start started to slip back
with an occasional electrical cut out problem due to a faulty black box.
Despite this happening several times during the race and losing us several
second every time, we plugged on at a fast consistent pace.
By the end of the 3 hours we were rewarded with 5th place, our best result
in the last couple of years.
Race Two, 3 Hours Sunday :
We started well back on the grid again, as starting position were based
on Saturdays finishing results, but reversed. The race started in heavy
rain and did not let up through the whole race.
It was a poor race for us with several problems that meant that while
we were still running at the finish, we had not completed enough laps
to qualify as a finisher.
Despite feeling good in the wet on Saturday, the handling of the car for
Sunday’s race went awry for some as yet unknown reasons, but possibly
due to tyres. In addition the windscreen wipers failed twice and a couple
of off excursions and moments ruined the race for us.
Race Lap Times:
Richard Connell: 1.45.3
Marc Connell: 1.45.1
Ian Connell: 1.45.9
