Fundraising for the NSPCC

Connell Racing has helped raise over £11,000 for the NSPCC after competing in the world’s longest endurance motor race.
Marc, Ian and guest driver Peter Cate competed in the Uniroyal Fun Cup 25 hour race at Spa Franchorchamps in Belgium.

Connell’s Volkswagen Beetle racing car was one of 160 identical cars competing, all of 135bhp, weighting 750kg and with the same tyre type. After running as high as 12th, the team had to replace the gearbox at 17 hours, so dropped to 60th by the end. Last year, the team finished second in the UK category class and ninth overall in the gruelling race, which was first staged in 1994.

The team said: “We are grateful to everyone for their sponsorship support which will help SPAR in its 50th anniversary year towards its £1 million target for the NSPCC.”
